Rehearsal Review 9/27/14
Today we spent the whole rehearsal working on our performance scenes.
Homework for 9/27/14
The only homework for this week. Continue to practice your performance scenes. Practice makes perfect. Here are some notes to help you out this week!
Elizabeth: Earn your pauses. Keep the scene moving and make your pauses count. Find one or two places where a pause can add to the scene.
NiYana: Speak slower and use more diction. Practice over pronouncing your words. That will slow you down and help get the 'words in your mouth'. Then during performance, it will happen without you thinking about it!
Kate: Work on memorizing the rest of your lines. You are doing a very good job at bringing you character through. Nail down those last few lines and you have it made!
Nora: Sit still! You are doing a very great job with your line and character choices. When you get nervous you like wiggle like a worm! Practice sitting very still when rehearsing your lines. That way, we won't lose any of your awesome performance.
Jordan: You are doing a great job with your character choices and memorization. When you working at home, practice saying your monologue a little faster.
Amy: Bigger reactions! Great job on memorizing your long Lucy lines. They are definitely a challenge! Now that you have them memorized, practice larger reactions! Lucy is a great character to experiment because there is no thing as too big!
Libby: Volume. You are doing an incredible job! You can tell how much you have worked on your scenes. The only thing we are missing is volume. Work on yelling your lines. That way, when you perform, you are used to talking louder than normal and the volume will increase without you having to think about it.
Jada: Slow down. You are very solid with your lines. Great job. You can tell how hard you have worked on your scene at home. When you get nervous on the stage, you speed up and say your lines really fast! The audience misses what you say when that happens. This week practice saying your lines as if you are talking to your family. You can even pretend you are performing in slow motion. This will help slow you down when performing.
I am so proud of each and every one of you!! Keep up the hard work! I cannot wait for our showcase next week!!
Rehearsal Review 9/20/14
Today we played a few games to warm up and spent the rest of rehearsal working on our performance pieces. We worked with our partners and then went through blocking, performing in front of the rest of the group.
Homework for 9/20/14
The only homework for this week... memorize your performance piece.
Rehearsal Review 9/13/14
Today we played some improvisation games that helped us learn about listening to each other and character development. We reviewed our theatre terms and how to read a script. We recited what we memorized about the presidents and received new scene for us to perform at the showcase.
Homework for 9/13/14
1. Memorize the other president on your sheet. Work to memorize all the details, dates included.
2. Work on your performance scenes. Parents if you have any questions, please reach out. These scenes are less complex than the Alice scenes we handed out week 1.
3. Answer the character questions about the character you will perform at the workshop. Parents work with your kids to answer these. Part of performing is have a well rounded idea of who you character is. If there are no details in the script, use your imagination to answer the questions. Sometimes actors need to fill in the blanks when the playwright doesn't provide the details.
4. If you have time, pick one of the Alice characters to answer those questions about. We will spend some time discussing how different actors interpret the same characters differently.

Rehearsal Review 9/6/2014
Today we did introductions and a number of improvisation games. We worked on telling stories using our bodies. Each child was given a folder. In their folder is a sheet with two presidents on it and two scenes from Alice in Wonderland. During this rehearsal, we took time and read through our president sheets. We read through those in front of the class. Then we took time and looked at the scenes from Alice in Wonderland.
Homework for 9/6/2014
This week each child needs to choose one of the presidents on their sheet to memorize. They will present this in front of the group next week. This exercise is to work on memorization. They will also need to read through their scenes from Alice in Wonderland. At this time, we may not perform them at the end of the workshop as planned. More to come later this week.
