FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Why chose Broadway Dance Academy at Red Curtain Theatre?
Broadway Dance Academy at Red Curtain Theatre is proud to offer dance classes that cater to both pre-professional and recreational students ages 3 through adult. We provide exceptional training in Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop, Modern, and Musical Theatre Dance. Our goal is to create well-rounded, outstanding dancers, while inspiring their creativity and encouraging them to push themselves to become extraordinary performers.
Why aren't you offering in person classes this fall?
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all of our fall dance classes and private lessons will be held virtually. We believe that for the safety of all of our BDA dancers, instructors, and families, the safest and most responsible choice for us is to dance at home. Believe us when we tell you we would rather be together in the studio, but at the end of the day, we are not willing to put our families or our community at risk.
Could we meet in person and just wear masks?
In order to meet in person and be able to maintain the recommended distancing guidelines, it would significantly limit the number of students that we have in each class. We would be forced to turn students away, which is something we never want to do, as we want everyone who has a passion for the performing arts to be able to pursue them, regardless of circumstance. In addition, we take the health and well being of our BDA families and our community very seriously and we believe that for the time being, dancing at home is safest for all.
When do dance classes begin?
Our fall semester will begin Monday, August 24 and end Friday, December 18. There will be no classes the week of November 23-27. Registration for Live classes will close September 30. Students may register for On Demand classes or Private Instruction at any time.
How will I know about class placement?
In case you missed it, we are moving to four levels of dance classes this year! Therefore, all of our curriculum has been reworked to allow us to better address dancers' needs and challenge our students more precisely. If you danced with BDA during the spring or summer this year, you will receive an email with your class placement recommendations. If you are a new or former student and need help with this, please contact us at 501-396-9679 or at firstname.lastname@example.org.
How do I access classes?
All classes will be accessed through our website at redcurtaintheatre.com. If you do not already have an account on our website, you will receive an email allowing you to set up a username and password. Once logged in to the website, you can click MY ACCOUNT to view your class pages or the On Demand content.
Will you offer any daytime classes this fall?
Yes! This fall we will offer Adult Ballet classes and Adult Tap classes in both the daytime and in the evening this fall. We have Creative Movement classes available in the morning or afternoon. We have also added two Homeschool combination dance classes during the day.
What if I miss a live class?
All live classes will be recorded and available to access the following day. Classes will be recorded in Zoom's "speaker view," meaning that the recordings will show only the instructor during class instruction. We believe this will make it easier for students to focus on the instructor when rewatching class. During live classes, students are able to select any type of Zoom viewing they prefer on their own computer or mobile device.
Can I enroll in classes even if I don't live in Central Arkansas?
Absolutely!! You are welcome to join us for On Demand classes, Live classes, or Private Instruction from any part of the world. As a matter of fact, two of our dance instructors this fall will be teaching from other states!
What kind of floor should I dance on?
We highly recommend purchasing or making a dance floor for your use at home. We are waiving the annual registration fee and have discounted tuition in an effort to assist you with this. Having a proper floor on which to dance allows a safe, sturdy, and suitable platform to accommodate any style of dance. Proper dance floors prevent slipping when turning or jumping. Tap is also easier, as sounds are accentuated and your floors at home do not suffer damage. Based on your budget and preferences, there are many resources available online to purchase dance floors or tutorials to make your own for as little as $10! Please feel free to contact us for help with this.
Have you addressed the connection issues that were a problem in some live summer classes?
We have! While technology can be difficult at times and we cannot guarantee that there will never be interruptions or occasional glitches, we do believe that we have been able to resolve the main issue that caused connection problems during some summer classes.
Have the audio issues that were experienced during some live tap classes in the summer been resolved?
They have! We anticipate that tap classes this semester will be much easier thanks to the resolution of the audio issues we experienced in the summer. However, if you notice an issue during class, please be sure to notify your instructor. They can do some immediate troubleshooting to fix the problem and get class back on track.
Since I'm at home anyway, can I just dance in my pajamas?
We do love dancing in our pajamas around the house! However, during class we expect students to adhere to the dress code. This ensures that instructors will be able to see each student's alignment and positioning. Baggy clothing can mask bad habits, making improvement difficult or even causing injury. Following the dress code also eliminates distractions and creates cohesiveness. The dress code can be found here.
Why does tuition look different this semester?
As a result of the COVID pandemic, families are continuing to face many challenges, including financial hardships. One way we hope to help with this is by lowering class tuition and streamlining the tuition rates. With our new tuition structure for Live classes, 30 minute classes are $25/month, 45 minute classes are $35/month, 60 minute classes are $45/month, or you can register for unlimited classes for $200/month. We have also added On Demand classes that are available for a monthly subscription of $32/month. These classes will be pre-recorded and new content will be available weekly in Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop, and Musical Theatre dance. We have also elected to waive the annual registration fee this year. The purpose for this is to allow families to put that money toward the purchase of or creation of a proper dance floor for home use. We do not want finances to prohibit anyone from being able to pursue their artistic aspirations. If you are in need of tuition assistance, please reach out to us at 501-396-9679 or at email@example.com.
How do I pay tuition?
Tuition is billed by invoice and delivered by email to the email address used during registration, unless we are notified otherwise. You can click on your invoice to pay it manually online or you may set up automatic payments. Invoices will be emailed and automatic payments run the 15th of each month. For live classes, monthly tuition for the fall semester will be billed in August, September, October, and November. On demand subscriptions will be billed the 15th of every month unless the subscription is canceled. You may elect to pay for in full for the fall semester and receive a 5% discount. There are several other discounts that may be applicable; however, discounts may not be combined.
Will classes be back in studio in the spring?
We sure wish we could answer this question, but the truth is that we don't know. It is our hope to be able to return to in studio classes in the spring, but we will only do so if we feel this can be safely achieved. Whether or not we are able to return to class in the person in the spring, we do intend to have an End of the Year Performance in May, even if it means doing so outdoors or virtually.
We heard you!
Thank you so much to everyone who took the time to complete the survey regarding this spring and summer's online dance classes! As a result, here are some things we will be doing differently in the fall:
- We are offering both On Demand and Live class options as well as Private Instruction this fall!
- We have added back daytime classes for adults.
- All live classes will be recorded in Zoom's "speaker view," meaning that the recordings will show only the instructor during class instruction. We believe this will make it easier for students to focus on the instructor when rewatching class. During live classes, students are able to select any type of Zoom viewing they prefer on their own computer.
- We are working on a glossary of dance terms that will be posted to each class page that you can review throughout the semester.
- Instructors will offer close up recordings that help breakdown steps or combinations. These recordings will be posted to the class page on the website.
- We have worked hard to resolve the technical issues we experienced with live classes during the summer, so this should allow for fewer disruptions to class time in the fall.
