COVID-19 POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

IN STUDIO AND ONLINE CLASSES


​Join us either in studio or online for our Spring 2021 dance classes. Weekly classes  are available for ages 3+ in Creative Movement, Ballet, Pointe, Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop, Modern, and Musical Theatre.

Dancers in studio must wear masks at all times and maintain 6 feet distance between classmates and instructors. Please review all BDA COVID-19 Policies and Procedures prior to attending classes in studio.


​All classes will be livestreamed through Zoom. Classes will also be recorded and available to access the following day for those who miss class or would like to use it for review.

CREATIVE MOVEMENT

CREATIVE MOVEMENT (Ages 3-5) 
Mondays 4:00-5:00pm
​$35/month

​
Younger students are introduced to the basics of dance in a fun, creative way focusing on the joy of dance through imaginative stories, music and games, while also providing developmentally focused movement experiences that will be used later in formal ballet classes. Classes are narrative in nature as students are led through a series of movement stories and ballet/tap based activities that appeal to both girls and boys. Instructor: Elisabeth Bartholomew

BALLET

PRE-BALLET (Ages 5+, must have started Kindergarten)
Mondays 4:00-4:45pm
$25/month


The goal of this class is to impart the fundamentals of classical ballet and is a prelude to formal ballet instruction. Classes will introduce children to music and movement through a structured classroom that emphasizes creativity and group interactions. Students will understand turn-out, coordination, proper body alignment, French terminology, and musicality. Students will also be presented to elementary barre and center work. Instructor: Olivia Stephens

BALLET I (By placement)
Tuesdays 4:00-4:45pm
$35/month


Dancers will couple learning proper terminology and reasoning for ballet exercises and positions, with the fun of dancing combinations. New vocabulary continues to be introduced and more challenging exercises are developed. Each exercise is designed to strengthen a specific area of the body and create musculature necessary for the demands of classical ballet. Correct turnout and posture are expected from students in this level. Instructor: Elisabeth Bartholomew 

BALLET II (By placement)
Mondays 7:00-7:45pm
$35/month


As with each level, students are invited to this class after they have demonstrated a full understanding of the previous level. Body alignment and muscle awareness will determine progress. This class will focus on positions of the arms, direction of the body, increased movement vocabulary, and repetition and retention. Special attention is paid to the proper extension of the legs and shape of the feet and developing movement sequences. Students will see an increase in difficulty in barre and center work. BALLET III (By placement)
Tuesdays 5:35-6:35pm
$45/month


Training at this level will become more serious and students are invited to this class once they have demonstrated full understanding of the previous level. This class will pay attention to fine details, use of the upper body, breath of movement and expression, as well as an increasingly advanced repertory of steps. Students will increase their skills in flexibility, strength, and rounding out their ballet vocabulary. Repetition and slow careful work is emphasized, with the students learning discipline and control of their bodies. Instructor: Christina Muñoz Madsen

BALLET IV (By placement)
Tuesdays 5:35-6:35pm
$45/month

PRE-POINTE (By placement)
Mondays 7:45-8:15pm
$25/month


Pointe shoes require incredible strength in both the ankles and feet. Special exercises will be used to pinpoint the appropriate muscles so that dancers can ascend onto their toes safely and descend with control. The majority of the time spent in this class is at the barre. The curriculum allows ample time to help students build the strength and alignment necessary for pointe work. It also helps instructors assess readiness, which lessens the risk of injury once students are in their shoes. This class can be taken on flat or in pointe shoes at the instructor's discretion. INTERMEDIATE POINTE & ADVANCED POINTE (By placement)
Tuesdays 6:35-7:05pm
$25/month


Dancing en pointe is a major goal in a dancer's journey and requires a  tremendous amount of strength. Readiness for pointe work is determined by each student's personal strength and physical development.  Students will utilize previously learned ballet technique while working in pointe shoes and will build control through the feet as well as proper shape and dexterity. Each class includes barre exercises, center floor work, and across the floor combinations. Instructor: Christina Muñoz Madsen

​ADULT BALLET (Ages 18+)
Mondays 6:45-7:30pm or Wednesdays 11:30am-12:15pm

Ballet has a great number of physical, mental, and social benefits for students. Along with its many health advantages, ballet improves energy, cognitive development, posture, and even a student's artistic development. This class introduces the fundamentals of classical ballet through barre work, center combinations, and across the floor sequences. Classes are slow and thorough to ensure proper alignment and understanding. Maybe you took dance classes when you were young, maybe you never have and are thinking about starting as a beginner. No matter who you are, you don't have to be a professional ballerina to reap the benefits of this class. Instructor: Olivia Stephens

PRE-JAZZ (Ages 5+, must have started Kindergarten) 
Mondays 5:15-5:45pm
$25/month


Jazz dance is energetic and fun, consisting of unique moves, fancy footwork, big leaps, and quick turns. To excel in jazz, dancers need a strong background in ballet, as it encourages grace and balance. Students will focus of learning proper technique such as isolations of the body, improving performance quality and developing complex rhythm and patterns. Students will be exposed to various styles of jazz such as street and lyrical to help develop a well-rounded dancer. Instructor: Olivia Stephens

JAZZ I, JAZZ II, JAZZ III, JAZZ IV (By placement)
Jazz I - Tuesdays 4:50-5:35pm, $35/month
Jazz II - Mondays 5:05-5:50, $35/month
Jazz III / IV- Thursdays 4:00-4:45pm, $35/month


Jazz dance is energetic and fun, consisting of unique moves, fancy footwork, big leaps, and quick turns. To excel in jazz, dancers need a strong background in ballet, as it encourages grace and balance. These classes will give students an opportunity to push themselves technically while further developing their performative range and individual artistic voice. The warm-up, progressions, and combinations will use classic jazz techniques to develop students’ musicality, athleticism, alignment, and performance. Jazz styles include classical, jazz funk, street, and lyrical/contemporary. Instructors: Elisabeth Bartholomew (Jazz I), Lauren Porter (Jazz II), Olivia Stephens (Jazz III, Jazz IV)

TAP

PRE-TAP (Ages 5+, must have started Kindergarten)
Mondays 4:45-5:15pm

Tap class is often characterized by rhythm, dynamics, and varying sounds created by the dancer. The class emphasizes proper tap technique, producing clear tap sounds, and having fun. Exercises in this class will focus on building flexibility of the knees and ankles, coordination, and speed appropriate movement. Instructor: Olivia Stephens

TAP I, TAP II, TAP III (By placement)
Tap I - Tuesdays 5:40-6:25, $35/month
Tap II - Mondays 5:55-6:40, $35/month
Tap III / IV- Thursdays 4:50-5:35pm, $35/month


Tap class is often characterized by rhythm, dynamics, and varying sounds created by the dancer. Students will continue to develop tap technique and terminology and will further develop skills including musicality and sound clarity with an added focus on increasing speed and developing style. Instructors: Rosalyn Williams (Tap I), Lauren Porter (Tap II), Olivia Stephens (Tap III, Tap IV)

​ADULT TAP I (Ages 18+)
Mondays 11:30am-12:15pm or Mondays 7:35-8:20pm
$35/month


Get on your feet and make some noise! This beginner level class will focus on proper instruction of how to articulate your feet and ankles as well as explore musicality, rhythm, and syncopation. Students will work toward establishing fundamental tap movements, vocabulary, and will work on basic steps that progress into fun and lively dance combinations. Instructor: Olivia Stephens

​ADULT TAP II (Ages 18+ with at least two years of recent tap training)
Tuesdays 7:20-8:05pm
​$35/month


Tap dance uses the sound of the tap shoes hitting the floor as a percussive instrument. This class focuses on sharpening reflexes and improving memory skills and coordination through more intricate rhythms and combinations. Tap dancing is a great way to develop musicality, timing, and balance. Instructor: Olivia Stephens

HIP HOP

HIP HOP I, HIP HOP II, HIP HOP III, HIP HOP IV (By placement)
Hip Hop I - (Ages 5+, Must have started Kindergarten) Mondays 5:50-6:20pm, $25/month
Hip Hop II - Thursdays 7:30-8:05pm, $35/month
Hip Hop III / IV - Thursdays 6:30-7:15pm, $35/month


Hip hop is an upbeat urban style of dance that is forever evolving.  This will be a high-energy class that infuses the latest styles of street dancing, breaking, popping, and locking. Classes will encourage students to step outside of the box by bringing their own individual style and personality to the movements. Hip hop dance requires students to have the strength and stamina to successfully perform moves. Therefore, class includes upper and lower body conditioning as well as a rigorous warm-up to help prepare students for more intense movements. MODERN (Ages 10+ or placement)

Modern dance focuses on movement as a physical expression of emotion. These classes will incorporate and eclectic blend of post-modern movements including suspension and release, fall and recovery, and the use of momentum and movement. Modern dance allows students to explore their individual dance style outside of the structure of traditional ballet and jazz classes. Instructor: Rosalyn Williams

Musical Theater Dance is the study of Broadway dance and dance styles. Emphasis will be placed on learning performance skills such as connecting with the audience and telling a story through dance by learning choreography from selected musicals. Jazz technique, stylization, and conditioning are also taught and will enhance students' dance education and future performing opportunities. Instructors: Rosalyn Williams (MTD I, III), Olivia Stephens (MTD II, IV, Adult MTD)

Through the improvement of musicality, technique, balance, and motor skills, these classes offer a creative outlet for students to express themselves.
