UPDATES FROM OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR REGARDING COVID-19
6/30/20 UPDATE
Dear RCT Friends, Families, and Patrons,
We had such exciting plans for our 2020 season. By far, it was going to be our biggest season yet, with twelve productions and our second annual Encore in the Alley fundraiser. It was ambitious, no doubt, but we were ready for the challenge and eager for all we had planned.
(ENTER COVID)
We didn't see the plot twist that was ahead. We were blissfully unaware that the months we spent planning and preparing for our 2020 season could end up in vain. We never suspected that we would find ourselves halfway through our season, having only made it through two productions and with no idea what our future would look like. But here we are.
I wish more than anything I could tell you what the next few months or even the next year is going to look like for Red Curtain Theatre, but I can't. I wish I could tell you when we will get to be back together in person, singing, dancing, acting, performing, but I can't. Here's what I can tell you: We aren't giving up. We are going to continue to adjust and adapt and do our very best to create opportunities to INSPIRE. CREATE. PERFORM. just as we always have.
As of today, the rest of our planned 2020 season is postponed indefinitely. This includes our productions of Miscast, Forever Plaid, Beauty & the Beast Jr, The Sound of Music, A... My Name is Alice, Aristocats Kids, The Rocky Horror Show, Rent High School Edition, Frozen Jr, and Frozen Kids. We are researching virtual performance opportunities and streaming options for productions and will continue to do so for as long as we believe it to be the safest option for our community.
We are excited to announce that our youth musical theatre summer camp will be held online July 20-31 with a virtual production of Sister Act Jr. that will be available for streaming at the end of August. We will continue to announce more virtual performance opportunities for children, teens, and adults over the next few weeks and months.
We are beyond grateful to each and every person who has continued to support us through this difficult season with messages of encouragement and generous gifts of financial support. Those who know us best know that we are dreamers at heart, and we will continue working to keep the dream of RCT alive. Thank you for dreaming right alongside us.
Love, light, and good health to you all,
Kristen Sherman

4/14/20 UPDATE
April 14, 2020
Dear Red Curtain Theatre Family,
As the days of social distancing persist, we continue to be inspired by the human connection. As performers, we understand that the most meaningful connections are those of the heart, of the soul, of the mind, and of the spirit. Those connections are what we long for and what we long to achieve through our work. We see this happening in so many unique and powerful ways right now.
While nothing can replace the intimacy of the connections formed through the experience of live theatre, performers being able to share their art through social media and people being able to witness the beauty and vulnerability of their performances is such a beautiful thing. We are honored that so many of you have chosen to do this through our online Quarantine Cabaret and we will continue to share these works of art as long as you keep sending them to us.
At RCT, we are continuing to adjust and adapt as needed. I am incredibly grateful to all of our vocal, piano, acting, and forensics coaches and students who have made the transition to online coaching. I’m thankful for our incredible dance instructors at Broadway Dance Academy who are still teaching and encouraging our dance students through online classes (many filmed from their own living rooms and garages) and to our dancers who are still dancing every week in their kitchens and bedrooms. I appreciate all of the directors of our upcoming shows who have been so very patient and understanding, knowing that we all share the same disappointments as our stage continues to remain dark.
At this time, we are hopeful that we will be able to resume our 2020 season at the end of July. We have postponed our productions of Beauty & the Beast Jr (tentative dates July 31-August 9), Forever Plaid (tentative dates September 11-27), and The Sound of Music (tentative dates October 9-18). Our productions of Miscast, A… My Name is Alice, and Rent: School Edition have been postponed to our 2021 season. We do not anticipate a change in the dates for our productions of The Rocky Horror Show, Aristocats Kids, Frozen Jr, or Frozen Kids. Our second annual Encore in the Alley fundraiser has also been postponed and we hope to reschedule this in the fall.
We are well aware that further changes may need to be made and should that occur, we will do whatever is necessary to continue to protect the health and well being of our RCT family, our patrons, and our community. This remains our top priority.
These are unprecedented times for all of us. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, many businesses, especially arts organizations, have been left in a vulnerable position. For community theatres, the very nature of our business depends on people literally coming together for the purpose of shared experiences. During this quarantine, we are unable to do the very thing that not only brings us joy and fulfillment as artists, but also brings in revenue through ticket sales to cover our fixed expenses.
If RCT has made a difference in your life and you are in a position to offer financial support to help ensure that someday soon we can continue our mission to inspire, create, and perform, we would consider it a great honor. We regard every donation, however large or small, as a gift of love and beacon of light, reminding us that even in this time of darkness, there is hope for a bright future.

3/27/20 UPDATE
March 27, 2020
Dear Red Curtain Theatre Family,
We miss you. We absolutely love keeping up with you on social media, but we miss your presence, your hugs, your laughter, your song, and your dance. We miss the excitement and energy that is felt at RCT when you all are there. We hope to feel it all again very soon.
With the escalation of the coronavirus outbreak, we continue to make adjustments and comply with recommendations from the CDC, WHO, and ADH to keep our families and community as safe as possible. There will be more information coming in the following days, but here are the most recent updates as of March 27, 2020:
PRIVATE INSTRUCTION
Until further notice, we are moving all private instruction in acting, voice, piano, and forensics to online lessons. Students will connect with their coaches through Zoom beginning Monday, March 30. All previously scheduled lessons will remain in the same time slots. As always, you may contact your coach to cancel or reschedule lessons. More information will be sent to students and parents regarding the specifics of online lessons this weekend.
BROADWAY DANCE ACADEMY
Beginning Monday, March 30, our dance studio will transition to online classes. Our amazing and dedicated instructors have spent this week filming classes and adapting their curriculum for students to be able to continue their studies and learn skills in their homes. Links to classes will be emailed to students throughout each week until we are able to return to live classes in our dance studios. Classes will be pre-recorded and available for two weeks at a time, allowing students to access them multiple times if they so desire. At this time, we are unsure when we will be able to return to our building, but as soon as we have more information regarding a return date, we will share it with you.
As previously communicated, our semester will be extended one week and classes will end May 8. For students in MTD II, MTD III, and Modern, we will not make up the classes that were missed earlier in the semester. Instead, you will receive a credit for those classes that will be applied to your April invoice. If you paid in full for the semester, the credit will be applied to your summer or fall invoice, or you can email us at [email protected] to request a refund.
Invoices and payments will run as scheduled on April 15. This will be the last monthly payment for the semester. If you are in need of tuition assistance during this time, please reach out to us at [email protected].
BDA END OF THE YEAR PERFORMANCE – SHINE ON
With much regret, we have made the very hard, but unavoidable decision to cancel our end of the year dance performance, "Shine On." Our hope is to revisit it next year. In the meantime, we are going to take those words and the inspiration that comes from them and invite all of our dance students to "Shine On" with us through our social media platforms over the coming days and weeks. If you have been following our RCT Quarantine Cabaret on Facebook and Instagram, we plan to do something similar on our BDA pages and want to invite students, instructors, and friends to submit videos of themselves dancing at home. Videos can be uploaded to a Google Drive, One Drive, Vimeo, You Tube, etc and a link emailed to [email protected]. Please include "Shine On" in the subject line.
Times are hard, friends, in so many ways and for so many people. We understand that and we are doing our best to navigate through these tough times while supporting our coaches, instructors, and students. We will share more information in the coming days about plans for the remainder of our 2020 season.
For now, let me encourage you to focus on today and what you can do to help your family, your friends, your neighbors, your community, and your country. Please stay home if you can. Please continue to reach out to those you love through technology. Please take a few minutes to walk outside and see that there is still so much beauty in our world and so much to be thankful for. And please keep sharing your gifts of art with the world. I leave you with lyrics from Dolly Parton's song "Shine On" that was the inspiration for our end of the year dance performance...
"The darkest night can be made light
By one bright word or smile
If we'd put on our neighbor's shoes
And chose to walk a mile
God gave us all our own free will
To choose the paths we take
No greater deed could e'er be done
Than for another's sake
The greatest gift, the gift of life
The gift of love divine
God gave us all a special gift
He meant for it to shine
Shine on, shine on, shine on"
Love, light, and good health to you all,

3/13/20 UPDATE
March 13, 2020
Dear Red Curtain Theatre Family,
As the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to spread and impact central Arkansas, we will continue to respond by making decisions that we feel are in the very best interest of our RCT family and our community at large. Please know that every single decision has been made with the health and well-being of our students, instructors, cast, crew, and community as our top priority. Below are the latest Red Curtain Theatre updates effective March 13, 2020:
PRIVATE INSTRUCTION
We will continue to provide private instruction coaching in acting, voice, piano, and forensics as scheduled. As always, we encourage immediate communication between coaches and students/parents regarding any illness or potential illness. Until further notice, we are waiving our 24 hour cancellation policy and students will not be charged for any lessons missed due to illness, even if canceled within the 24 hour time period prior to their lesson. There will still be a charge for no show lessons. Our coaches will make their best effort to reschedule lessons if possible, but we cannot guarantee availability for make up lessons at this time.
BROADWAY DANCE ACADEMY
Effective immediately, our dance studio will be closed through March 29, 2020. At this time, we intend to resume classes on Monday, March 30, 2020. Our full company rehearsal that was scheduled on Saturday, April 4 is canceled. Our full company dress rehearsal that was scheduled on Saturday, May 2 has been rescheduled to Saturday, May 9 at BDA. More details regarding specific times will be sent in the coming days.
Our end of the year dance performance, "Shine On," has been rescheduled to May 22 and 23 at Staples Auditorium on the Hendrix College campus. We will have dress rehearsals on Wednesday, May 20 and Thursday, May 21 at Staples. More details regarding this will be sent in the coming days as well.

Our second annual Encore in the Alley fundraiser and silent auction that was scheduled for Saturday, April 25 has been rescheduled to Saturday, May 30.
We know that for many people, the coming days, weeks, and months hold uncertainty and a great deal of sadness. It is our hope that during this time, while we work collectively to allow social distancing to stop or slow the spread of the coronavirus and other highly contagious diseases, that you will take some time to focus on other opportunities for human connection. Today's technology has afforded us the ability to connect with friends and loved ones through telephone calls, text messages, facetime, email, and social media. I would love to encourage you to use this opportunity to reconnect with an old friend or check in on a family member you haven't talked to in a while or even reach out to someone you'd like to get to know.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
U.S.Department of State
World Health Organization
Arkansas Department of Health
PRIVATE INSTRUCTION
We will continue to provide private instruction coaching in acting, voice, piano, and forensics as scheduled. Our dance studio will continue to hold classes at this time. Every student will be required to use hand sanitizer upon entrance into the dance studios. Effective immediately and until further notice, we are implementing a “no contact” dance policy. We will also encourage students to refrain from personal contact with classmates outside of the dance studios. Following each class, all barres and doorknobs will be wiped down with disinfectant wipes prior to the next class entering the dance studios. We ask for a few moments of patience between each class to allow for this. Students who are in back to back classes will be asked to exit the dance studios during this time and re-enter with the next class. Until further notice, any dance classes missed due to illness or out of an abundance of caution will be credited to the following month’s invoice. For students who have paid in full for the semester, credits will be held and applied to their next invoice for either the summer or fall term. To notify us of a class missed due to illness, please send an email to [email protected].
REHEARSAL
Rehearsals for our productions of Miscast and Forever Plaid will continue as scheduled. Should a cast or crew member experience any illness or potential illness, we ask that this be communicated immediately with a show director. We ask for patience and understanding as we continue to revise our rehearsal schedules as needed to ensure that cast members remain as healthy and safe as possible. While we all love each other and love to love on each other, we ask that over the coming weeks we replace our typical greetings of hugs with those of jazz hands… we are theatre people after all.
AUDITIONS
Auditions for The Sound of Music will proceed as scheduled on March 14 and 15. Auditionees experiencing any illness or potential illness are asked to refrain from auditioning in person and may submit a video audition for consideration. Videos must include the auditionee’s name and audition song with accompaniment. Please upload videos to a platform such as YouTube, Vimeo, etc. and email a link to the video to [email protected] by Sunday, March 15 at 4:00pm. Please notify us as soon as possible if this is your intent so we can update our audition schedule for this weekend. Those auditioning in person will be required to use hand sanitizer upon entrance into the dance studio for dance auditions. Following each audition group, all barres and doorknobs will be wiped down with disinfectant wipes prior to the next group of auditionees entering.
PERFORMANCES
At this time all performances of Miscast Musical Revue in April and Forever Plaid in May remain on the schedule.
