BALLET
BALLET I (By Placement)
Mondays 4:15-5:00pm
$40/summer
Dancers will couple learning proper terminology and reasoning for ballet exercises and positions, with the fun of dancing combinations. New vocabulary continues to be introduced and more challenging exercises are developed. Each exercise is designed to strengthen a specific area of the body and create musculature necessary for the demands of classical ballet. Correct turnout and posture are expected from students in this level. (Instructor: Ansley Sherman)
BALLET II / III (By placement)
Mondays 4:15-5:15pm
$50/summer
As with each level, students are invited to this class after they have demonstrated a full understanding of the previous level. Body alignment and muscle awareness will determine progress. This class will focus on positions of the arms, direction of the body, increased movement vocabulary, and repetition and retention. Special attention is paid to the proper extension of the legs and shape of the feet and developing movement sequences. Students will see an increase in difficulty in barre and center work. (Instructor: Rebecca Dillon)
PRE-POINTE (By placement)
Will be offered again in the fall semester
Pointe shoes require incredible strength in both the ankles and feet. Special exercises will be used to pinpoint the appropriate muscles so that dancers can ascend onto their toes safely and descend with control. The majority of the time spent in this class is at the barre. The curriculum allows ample time to help students build the strength and alignment necessary for pointe work. It also helps instructors assess readiness, which lessens the risk of injury once students are in their shoes. (Instructor: Rebecca Dillon)
POINTE (By placement)
Mondays 5:15-5:45pm
$30/summer
Dancing en pointe is a major goal in a dancer's journey and requires a tremendous amount of strength. Readiness for pointe work is determined by each student's personal strength and physical development. Students will utilize previously learned ballet technique while working in pointe shoes and will build control through the feet as well as proper shape and dexterity. Each class includes barre exercises, center floor work, and across the floor combinations. (Instructor: Rebecca Dillon)
ADULT BALLET (Ages 18+)
Thursdays 7:30-8:15pm
$40/summer
Ballet has a great number of physical, mental, and social benefits for students. Along with its many health advantages, ballet improves energy, cognitive development, posture, and even a student's artistic development. This class introduces the fundamentals of classical ballet through barre work, center combinations, and across the floor sequences. Classes are slow and thorough to ensure proper alignment and understanding. Maybe you took dance classes when you were young, maybe you never have and are thinking about starting as a beginner. No matter who you are, you don't have to be a professional ballerina to reap the benefits of this class. (Instructor: Rebecca Dillon)
